Understanding Cambodian Taxation

Overview

Cambodian Taxation Law has to be implemented by all-natural persons and legal entities must be implemented. Taxation law is a major risk factor among others which business owners must aware of and analyzes to avoid serious penalties and fines. The tax risk can be occurred due to two main factors such as the lack of a deep understanding of legal obligations, how to fill in a tax form and how to implement it.

To date, there have been several significant tax updates in Cambodia. Of note has been the implantation of the recent Law on Financial Management and the introduction of a new Prakas on some Taxes which came into effect. There have also been several other regulations have passed dealing with issues such as tax invoices, the calculation of Specific Tax, the implementation of tax incentives for SME’s and updates to the progressive tax rates of small taxpayers and tax resident employees. These updates have kept Tax professionals all busy as we understand how it may affect their business and clients.

This training program provides the core knowledge of the underlying principles and major technical areas of Cambodian taxation, as it affects the activities of individuals, employees, and businesses. The trainees will also be introduced to how to compute tax liabilities, explain the basis of their calculations, apply tax planning techniques for companies and identify the compliance issues.

Objective

The training program aims to introduce trainees to the current practice of the Cambodian Tax systems. It also introduces the trainees to the different regimes of taxation, the different forms of tax and tax administration. Therefore, upon completion of this training program the trainees will be able to:

  • Understand and get updated on the latest laws and regulations in Cambodian Tax implementation
  • Familiar with the calculation techniques and calculating the different types of taxes including the tax on profit, withholding tax, value added tax, tax on salary, and other kinds of tax such as the tax on accommodation, patent tax, public lighting tax...etc.
  • Apply practical and hands-on experience on tax-related issues to avoid tax evasion and non-compliance penalty
  • Prepare detail of monthly and yearly tax obligations, calculation, and declaration.

Trainer's Profile

He is currently working for the General Department of Taxation of the Royal Government of Cambodia as a Tax Officer. His role involves in consulting and updating the Taxation, Payroll Management, Financial Management, and Business Management.
